Amethyst Caves

After leaving Seoknam Temple, Kevin and I found our way to some nearby Amethyst caves. They were... weird.

The grounds outside of the caves featured an... amusement park. Very odd I though. A couple pictures of this are at the end of this post. There was a giant swinging ship ride, bumper cars, merry-go-round, etc.

Near the enterence to the cave was a fountain in a pond and a statue. It seemed very tacky to me.

Here's some stairs that they carved out.

The greenish-bluish tinge was cool, as was the river.

I'm not sure why these large murals were painted onto the walls. They also seemed tacky.

The cave was filled with "theme rooms". This one had statues of the different stages of man. There was the animal hunting with rocks man, the animal hunting with a spear man, the animal hunting with a cell-phone man, etc. I took one of the spears from a statue and attacked him with it. Kevin took a picture, so hopefully he'll post it on his site soon. It was pretty funny.

A really nice rock painting in a really unlikely place.

Another really nice painting in an unlikely place.

Who'd of thought that I'd see some Egyptian statues in an amethyst cave in Korea?

Or these Egyptian necklaces?

What's this theatre doing here?

Oh! It's Chinese acrobats! In a Cave! They were pretty good, but still... they were in a cave! It was just so surreal.

Is that what people used to do in these caves before the Egyptians and the acrobats took over?

It looks like the rest of Africa has left their mark here as well.

This dragon seemed a little more fitting than the Egyptian stuff.

Cool, it's some pictographs! There was a lot of whales drawn here. I have no idea how old they are. Are they a few hundred or thousand years old? Are they two years old? I have no idea.

Where does this lead?

The path leads to Buddha! I guess if you follow the way, you will find Buddha. At least in this cave...

There were actually a few Buddha shrines in this cave. This one had a monk chanting, but I could see no monk. Maybe he's hiding behind the stone Buddha. Let's take a look (remembering NOT to bow to the strange stone statue :D )...

This is one strange looking monk...

Here's some more of the amusement park.

This marry-go-round played children's music in English. Let's all sing!

"One little, two little, three little Indians;
Four little, five little, six little Indians..."
