Why America is better than Korea
With some of my more advanced classes (12-14 year old girls mostly), sometimes I like to draw a diagram on the board with two columns; positive and negative.
I write a topic on the board, usually a country, and have the kids give me some positives and negatives for that topic. It's probably more educational for me than it is for them, but oh well. They're still practicing English.
Todays nation was the US of A.
The negatives were the usual, with things like pollution, it's expensive and there's lots of fat people. It was one of the positive things which I really found interesting. Aside from the girls mentioning good education and lots of nice scenery, they gave me one whopper:
wait for it...
wait for it...
In America, the teachers aren't allowed to hit their students.

chatting with a coworker fr Philipines she said it's true there also like the old days here(old), teachers use the strap there still. Wow it is scary likely more common in the public system then private right??

I know that some Korean teachers in private schools will physically disipline the kids to, if they see fit.
It seems to be accepted here, but I don't think I could ever bring myself to wacking a kid with anything. In a way I can understand it, but...well...they're just kids! Give them a break, I say!
